Write your future

In October 2018, my best friends mum passed away after a 2 year battle with cancer. This lovely lady did not write a will as she was afraid it would mean she was giving up the fight. Her family soon realised there was also no funeral plan in place. Grieving the loss of their mother, grandmother, and friend, the family was left in turmoil.

There was not enough money in her bank account to cover the cost of her funeral and burial. There was no will to help the family know how to separate her assets. This lead to arguments on two fronts. How were the funeral costs to be met? And what should happen to her?

Her immediate children, from modest working backgrounds with young families of their own, had no extra monetary funds available. No one wanted to take on the responsibility of a large loan. Even if they decided to sell her valuables, which held sentimental value to the family, it would still fall short of the overall funeral costs.

At a time when a family should be united together, holding each other in their grief and sadness, instead I watched a family being torn apart.

As I watched my best friend struggle, I found myself researching what could have been done to prevent these issues.

My own father told me there is only one guarantee for the future – ‘one day we will all die’.

This led me to Maplebrook Wills. I became a Will Writer and today I support people over North Somerset to plan their future. I also provide funeral plans, trusts and lasting powers of attorney (LPA’s), all of which can provide you with peace of mind regarding health, finance, and your personal assets.

My name is David Smyth, Legacy Planner for Maplebrook Wills North Somerset and I would love for you to give me a call, where together we can arrange a time that I can visit you at home.

Whether you live in Portishead, Clevedon, Nailsea, Backwell, Yatton, Worle, Weston-Super-Mare or Burnham-on-Sea, I would be privileged to come and have a chat with you about safe guarding your future where you can finally say “I’m glad I got that sorted” and concentrate on living your very best life.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your call.
